National Worker Safety and Health Policy Summit

October 27, 2012: San Francisco, CA

Each year the National COSH convenes a national gathering of worker safety and health advocates to discuss the current state of occupational safety and health policy around the country and to coordinate strategies to improve working conditions. Summit topics in past years have included:

  • Federal legislation to strengthen the OSH Act
  • Federal regulatory issues
  • State and local initiatives to improve worker safety and health
  • Workers’ Compensation
  • Hazardous Chemical Policy
  • Strategies for improving conditions for Immigrant Workers and Farmworkers
  • Advocacy strategies for young workers
  • Education and Training strategies

This year’s Summit will take place the day before the opening of the American Public Health Association annual meeting in San Francisco.  Activists from the California OSH Advocates Network will play a major role in the Summit, which will focus both on issues specific to California as well as a range of national issues.  Past years’ leading speakers have included Jordan Barab, Assistant Director of OSHA; Peg Seminario, Director of Health and Safety for the AFL-CIO; Eric Frumin, Director of Health and Safety for Change to Win; Cecil Roberts, President of the United Mine Workers of America; and other leading figures in the worker health and safety movement.
