Bangladesh labor activist Kalpona Akter to deliver keynote address at upcoming conference

In case you needed another reason to get excited about our upcoming National Worker Safety and Health Conference (you know, besides innovative, interactive workshops and strategy planning sessions), here you go:

National COSH is thrilled to announce that Kalpona Akter, executive director of the Bangladesh Center for Worker Solidarity, one of Bangladesh’s most prominent labor rights advocacy organizations, will deliver a keynote address at the conference.

Yesterday, Akter and National COSH’s own Jessica Martinez had some fun promoting the conference while at the AFL-CIO’s convention in Los Angeles. (See picture to the right.)

Akter, herself a former child garment worker, is an internationally recognized labor rights advocate and has traveled widely to speak about the deplorable conditions that Bangladesh garment workers face every day. She has appeared in countless news reports and has been a vocal advocate for safer working conditions in many demonstrations in the wake of recent tragedies in Bangladesh’s garment factories.

We look forward to welcoming Akter to the COSH Network, hearing her insight, and working together to improve working conditions for Bangladesh’s garment workers.

Don’t miss our early-bird registration rate; register for the conference here.
