National Worker Health and Safety Training Conference and Summit

The National Worker Health and Safety Training Conference and Summit will help health and safety activists gain the tools they need to improve workplace conditions, as well as provide a forum for developing strategies for policy advocacy.

When: October 28-29, 2011

The Maritime Institute, Baltimore, MD (just minutes from BWI airport)

Who Should Attend: Worker safety and health advocates, local union health and safety rep’s, workers’ center staff and members, health and safety trainers, and others interested in worker safety and health.

Details: In past years, the National COSH Network has organized a “Summit” meeting following our annual internal conference. This year, we are planning an expanded training conference that will begin on Friday October 28 at 9:00 am and will continue through Saturday the 29th. Our annual Summit, focusing on developing strategies for policy advocacy,will take place as part of this conference and will begin with lunch at noon on Saturday October 29.

Participants will be able to register for the full two day conference or for just the half day Summit on Saturday.

Program: Workshops will include:

  • Workplace Health and Safety Strategies: Committees, Campaigns, Controlling Hazards, Inspections, Investigations, Internet resources, Contract Language, Research, Challenging Behavior Safety Programs
  • Legal Rights: OSHA, NLRB, NIOSH, Chemical Safety Board, OSHA Review Commission, Workers Compensation, Third Party Lawsuits, Criminal Prosecution
  • Workplace Health and Safety Issues: Injury and Illness Prevention Programs, Green Jobs, Workplace Violence and Bullying, Safe Patient Handling, Ergonomic hazards, Stress on the job, Lean Production
  • Health and Safety Coalitions: Families, Media and Social Networking, Strategies for reaching out to hard-to-reach workers, Marketing H&S to the Public

Registration Information

The National Worker Safety and Health Training Conference is taking place October 28-29, 2011 at the Maritime Institute in Baltimore, MD, just minutes from Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI.) The Institute has high quality, hotel-style sleeping rooms (singles and doubles available,) an outstanding food service operation, and a pleasant bar and lounge. Conference participants are strongly encouraged to stay at the Institute, but this is not required. A full hot breakfast and dinner offering many excellent options is included in room and board charges. Lunches are included in the conference registration fee.

Conference Registration Fees

For the 2 day conference:
Early Bird Registration (Paid by June 21) $150
After June 21 $180

Maritime Institute Room and Board (all taxes and breakfast and dinner included)
Single room, per night: $147
Double room per night: $104

Included in the Maritime Institute Fee are:

  • All Meals–full, excellent quality, buffet with a wide array of choices for all tastes: breakfast and dinner (lunch is included with conference fee)
  • Complimentary use of recreational facilities; including indoor pool, fitness center, racketball court, and game room.
  • Complimentary parking and shuttle service to/from BWI Airport and BWI Amtrak Station
  • Complimentary local and toll-free telephone calls up to 30 minutes in length

Health and Safety Summit Registration
Our annual Worker Health and Safety Summit will take place as part of this conference, beginning with lunch at 12:00 Noon on Saturday Oct. 28 and ending at 6:00 pm.

Summit Only Registration Fee: $50 (includes lunch)
